Huangshan
World Natural and Cultural Heritage
Huangshan, known as 'the
loveliest mountain of China', was acclaimed through
art and literature during a good part of Chinese history
(e.g. the Shanshui 'mountain and water' style of the
mid-16th century). Today it holds the same fascination
for visitors, poets, painters and photographers who
come on pilgrimage to the site, which is renowned for
its magnificent scenery made up of many granite peaks
and rocks emerging out of a sea of clouds.

[ How can I get to Mt. Huangshan?
]
|
Huangshan means Yellow Mountain in Chinese language, the
name has nothing to do with the color though. The mountain,
known as Yishan, was where Emperor Huang (Emperor Yellow)
prepared his herbal medicines. On 17 June 747, during
Tang Dynasty, an imperial order was issued to name it
Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) in honour of Emperor Huang. |
